As the three-year hike on import tariffs of Chinese-made consumer tires nears the one-year anniversary, I’d like to tell the U.S. government to:
Return the tariffs to 4 percent.
Replace the tariffs with import quotas.
Let the tariffs expire over 3 years, I think they've helped even the playing field.
Implement a new high or higher tariff and extend it permanently.

Tire Price Hikes
Trelleborg Wheel Systems
will increase prices by an average of 5 percent on tires and wheels for agricultural, forestry and light industrial applications, effective Sept. 1.


Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS),
a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, increased prices July 1 on Bridgestone brand truck and bus radial tire base prices by up to 6 percent in the U.S.


Michelin North America
is increasing prices an average 3.5 percent on replacement farm tires in the U.S. and Canada and by 3 percent on earthmover tires sold in the U.S. and Mexico. Takes effect Aug. 1.


Trelleborg Wheel Systems S.p.A.
will increase prices worldwide on its industrial and construction tires on July 1. between 5 and 7 percent in North and South America. Prices are going up 7 to 10 percent in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa.


American Pacific Industries Inc. (API)
will increase prices for its Gladiator medium truck tires in North America by up to 6 percent on June 15.


Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions
will increase prices in the U.S. on its Firestone- and Dayton-brand truck tires up to 6 percent on June 1. (The company, a division of Bridgestone Americas, raised prices up to 6 percent on May 1 on Bandag retread material prices in the U.S.)


Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.
will hike prices up to 7.5 percent June 1 for all passenger and light truck tires shipped in North America. The percentage increase will vary between product lines; all customers in all channels will be affected.


Falken Tire Corp.
will raise prices on passenger and light truck tire lines June 1 by up to 6 percent and medium truck radial lines by up to 4 percent.


Goodyear
will hike prices on all brands of consumer tires in the U.S. and Canada by 6 percent on June 1.


Hankook Tire America Corp.
is raising prices by up to 6 percent June 1 on its full line of passenger, light truck and medium duty truck tires. Percentages of increase will vary by product line and size.


Kumho Tire USA Inc.
will hike prices only in the U.S. on all passenger and light truck tires up to 8 percent, effective June 1, with additional inline adjustments.


Michelin North America Inc.
is increasing prices June 1 by up to 6 percent on several tire lines, including Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, private and associate brand passenger car and light truck replacement tires sold in the U.S., and Michelin-brand replacement motorcycle tires sold in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.


Nexen Tire America Inc.
will apply an 8-percent price hike, effective June 1, to all tire sizes and patterns on all warehouse orders and June factory-direct container production.


Pirelli Tire North America Inc.
will increase prices 4 percent July 1 on all replacement passenger and light truck tires in the U.S.


Titan Tire Corp.
will raise prices up to about 6 percent on Titan-brand farm and construction tires and Titan-made Goodyear-brand farm tires, effective June 1.


Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.
will raise passenger car, light truck, commercial truck and OTR tire prices up to 8 percent June 1, with in-line adjustments.


Yokohama Tire Corp.
will hike prices June 1 on all consumer tire lines by up to 8 percent, effective on passenger, performance and light truck tires, with some inline adjustments.
